You might have noticed there are now two current models of one of America’s most popular half-ton pickups, but what is the difference between the All-New RAM 1500 and the RAM 1500 Classic? We’re here to help you out, so read on to compare:

Power and MPG

When you’re comparing two pickups, it makes sense to start with engine power.

All-new RAM 1500 options include:

• 5.7L HEMI® V8 Engine: Makes up to 295 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
• 3.6L Pentastar® V6 Engine with eTorque: Makes up to 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, plus up to 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
• 5.7L HEMI® V8 Engine with eTorque: Makes up to 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, plus up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

Current RAM 1500 Classic options include:

• 3.6L Pentastar® V6: Makes up to 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, plus 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
• 5.7L HEMI® V8 Engine: Makes up to 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, plus 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

The All-New RAM 1500 uses the same engines, but its innovative eTorque system boasts efficiency.

Towing and Payload

While both models offer outstanding capability, the all-new RAM 1500 certainly pulls ahead:

• Max Tow Rating: Up to 12,750 lbs. with the all-new RAM 1500 vs. 10,710 with the RAM 1500 Classic.
• Max Payload Rating: Up to 2,300 lbs. with the all-new RAM 1500 vs. 1,920 with the RAM 1500 Classic.

Price and Features

The RAM 1500 Classic only offers three model options, while the All-New RAM 1500 offers six. However, the Classic does have a lower starting price:

• RAM 1500 Classic MSRP: $27,295
• All-New RAM 1500 MSRP: $34,595

That said, the All-New RAM model does offer several features unavailable with the Classic, including:

• Largest-In-Class12-Inch Uconnect Touchscreen
• 900-watt, 19-Speaker Harman Kardon® Premium Audio System
• 10-Square-Foot Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof

It’s also longer and wider, so you can expect a little more interior space.
